House System – Haute Vallée

What is a “House” System?
The House System is widely used in British schools and in countries with past British colonial ties, such as Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, and Singapore. The System began in boarding schools, where students actually ate, drank, and slept in individual Houses during school terms. The House System still operates this way in prestigious British boarding schools, such as Harrow, Eton, and Winchester College.

WHEN DID IT BEGIN?

The House System at Haute Vallée School was established in 2005 and we at Haute Vallée School feel there are numerous advantages. It provides not only an increased feeling of identity and belonging but also instils a sense of togetherness and unity. There are many leadership opportunities within the System which allows students to develop various skills, such as communication, organisation and teamwork.

HISTORY

Since its formation in 2005 the Haute Vallée House System already has a feeling of history. We tell our House Leaders that years from now, their successors will look to them as examples and early founders of their Houses.

WHY HAVE A HOUSE SYSTEM?

The House System exists to provide a healthy level of competition and camaraderie among students. Every pupil and staff member at Haute Vallée School is assigned to a House. The ethos of the House System is to build on the school ethos of ‘Achieve, Believe, Care’ and it provides our students with many chances throughout the academic year to participate in stimulating and exciting activities. The House System fosters a team spirit which transcends Year groups and allows new bonds to be made between all students of all ages.

LEADERSHIP

Each House has 12 offices of House Leadership: 2 House Captains chosen from Year 10 and there are also 10 House Representatives chosen from Years 7 to 11
