Student Raises Awareness for Homelessness
To raise awareness for homelessness, I had the experience of living like a homeless person for the night, sleeping rough and outside gave us an understanding of the challenges faced.
It was tough but overall, a good experience. It gave me an insight on how much homelessness in Jersey is an issue that causes much suffering.
Doing the sleepout organised by the Sanctuary Trust was a great way to raise more exposure to homelessness and make it a topic of conversation. It was a very cold experience hence being outside but with all the singing and talking with other people, it warmed me up and gave a sense of unity.
Sanctuary Trust is an organisation that supports men that are homeless.
We have raised over £20,000 doing this event and there was 120 people supporting this cause. I’ll do it again next year and hope we can further support homelessness in Jersey.
