Haute Vallee Students head to Iceland
Iceland Trip – Student POV
In the half term holiday of February 2025, Mrs Gallagher and 29 Year 10 and Year 11 students went on a trip to Iceland. This was their first trip with school to visit here since Covid. They were very excited because of this. They arrived in Iceland on Sunday 16 February and left on Wednesday 19 February. Even though this was a short trip, they enjoyed it very much and saw loads of spectacular things.
One of those things were the Northern Lights. Sadly, Mrs Gallagher missed these lights because four students did not want to come on the walk and see them. The lovely Mrs Gallagher stayed in the hotel with them, and when the other twenty-five got back, they were extremely elated that they had seen the lights. Mrs Gallagher ran out onto the street to try and see them, but unfortunately, it was too late, they were gone.
Another thing that they saw was a real glacier. This is a majestic sheet of ice spread across an area. It must have been amazing to see something so wonderful. It’s crazy how gorgeous nature can be!
They also saw some cool waterfalls that they could walk behind. It was a magical experience for everyone. It must have been so cool to see that!
The last surreal thing that they saw was a geyser. They found it very interesting how every ten minutes, a huge puff of smoke would be released from the opening of the geyser.
The students made the most of Uber Eats ordering it in every night! They enjoyed it so much, of course we don’t have Uber Eats in Jersey, so it was a real treat! They had; chicken, burgers, pizza, and many other fast-food options (hopefully they ate something other than Uber Eats like fruit and vegetables 😊).

What an amazing whirlwind trip we had to the country of Fire and Ice.
We took part in the Golden Circle Tour on day 1, which involved iconic sites such as, The Kerid Crater, followed by a swim at the Secret Lagoon, followed by the Gullfoss Waterfall – incredible. And then to the Geyser which was amazing! Topped off by the National Park!
A brilliant day had by all!
On the second day we took part in the South Shore Adventure.
The group set off and headed to the Lava Centre, an interactive exhibition about volcanoes and earthquakes and how Iceland monitors possible eruptions.
From there they went to Skógafoss Waterfall and climbed over 600m to the top, some students even battelled their fears of heights to do this.
Then they had a chilly stop at the infamous black sand beach where the crashing waves were spectacular. This was a dramatic show of how powerful nature really can be.
The highlight of the day was a short hike to the Jökulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, an incredible reminder of how the balance of nature is our hands.
And then they finished the day off by walking behind a Waterfall, Seljalandsfoss.
This was a super long day and after dinner we strolled into the beautiful city of Reyakvik.
The 29 students who came were from Year 10 and 11 and they were an absolute credit not only to their parents and guardians but to Haute Vallee.
Thank you to all who took part, students and staff alike who gave up their precious holiday time.
