Parents Evening
What is parents evening?
Parents’ Evening is an opportunity for parents or carers to talk to their child’s teachers to find out about their progress and behaviour at school.
When is parents’ evening?
Haute Vallee offers at least one parents’ evening every academic year per year group. This gives you as a parent or carer the opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher and find out about their progress and behaviour at school.
What happens during parents’ evening?
During parents’ evening, you will be invited into school to meet subject teachers. This will usually take place in the sports hall.
You will be given the option to book a 6-minute meeting with each of your child’s teachers to talk to you about your child’s progress and behaviour in that subject
It can be a good idea to think of any questions that you may have in advance, as the teacher may have another appointment straight after.
What if I can’t make it to parents’ evening?
Parents’ evening often takes a few hours so you are given different time slots to choose from to suit you and your family. The time slots are allocated on a first come – first served basis, so remember to reply quickly if there is a specific time that you would like to be seen.
If you can’t make the selected date due to prior commitments, contact your child’s teacher to discuss alternative options. You may find that your child’s teacher is able to see you after school on a different day.
What can I discuss during parents’ evening?
There is only a limited time during your allocated time slot and this is intended to discuss your child’s general progress. If you have any issues or concerns that may need more time devoted to them, consider speaking to your child’s school to arrange an appointment at a different time.
Remember that many teachers also have an open-door policy and it is important that you contact them as soon as possible if you have any concerns rather than waiting for the next parents’ evening.
